ABOUT ME

Kaiya Harper is a Graduating Senior TV/Film Production Major at Howard University, from Portsmouth, VA. She's a visual artist and storyteller whose work has always bridged photography, film, and dance. With an eye for editorial aesthetics and a deep appreciation for Black culture, Kaiya specializes in creating striking imagery that feels cinematic, intimate, and unapologetically bold. Her longterm goals are to direct and edit visuals for the music, fashion, and entertainment industry, spanning from documentaries to music videos to live events/performances and narratives.

resume + more about me

Kaiya is building a career that amplifies the voices and visions of Black creatives. As a growing director and edito, their mission is to blend fashion and performance with raw authenticity, capturing stories that move beyond the frame and into memory.

From behind the camera, she crafts icon-style portraits and conceptual shoots that turn everyday moments into iconic visuals. Through film, they weave narratives rich with emotion, often exploring themes of identity, artistry, and the personal journeys of performers. Their directing and editing work showcase a keen sense of rhythm—whether in a dance sequence or the silent intensity of a single frame.

Works

The Eye of the Muse - April 2023

Intro to Media Production - Professor Morton

Creative Director & Editor

Mini Documentary Assignment in which we were individually tasked to create an "About Me" video. As an editor, I took the liberty of exercising my creativity by making my story into a mini-documentary, strategically using videos from my past and conducting interviews with my mother and grandmother to serve as the narration.

Coraline (Trailer) - February 2024

Non-Linear Editing - Professor Jolene Carter

Our class assignment was to create a two-minute trailer and present the movie in a genre opposite of it's original form. For instance, the movie Coraline is an animated thriller, but by manipulating music and strategizing clip choice, I advertised it as an upbeat and light-hearted film.

Cherry Hill Park - Fall 2024

Directing - Professor Dvir

Assistant Director and Editor

Tasked with taking on the role of Assistant Director by Dvir, I joined Faith Mulosmanaj's project about a young, swaggy, black boy who rebels against his mom's wisdom to find out she was right all along.
